Master the essential concepts of calculus and advanced functions. Our Preliminary Advanced course builds the rigorous mathematical foundation you need to excel in the HSC and pursue a future in science, engineering, or commerce.
Updated for the new NESA syllabus
Mathematics Advanced 11–12 (2024)
— first HSC examination 2027
Year 11 gains a data strand inside Probability and data, and discrete probability distributions move up to Year 12.
This course marks the critical transition to senior mathematics, introducing the fundamentals of calculus.
We focus on developing a deep conceptual understanding of functions, derivatives, and trigonometry, moving beyond formulas to ensure you can solve complex, multi-step problems.
Our expert instruction builds the confidence and skills essential for HSC success. 📈
Our curriculum provides a thorough grounding in all key areas of the Preliminary Advanced syllabus:
Functions and their Graphs
Trigonometric Functions (including radians)
Introduction to Differentiation (Calculus)
Logarithmic and Exponential Functions
A high level of achievement in Year 10 Mathematics (5.3/Adv pathway) is strongly recommended. A solid command of algebra is crucial for success.
This course is the prerequisite for a vast range of university degrees in Engineering, Commerce, Science, Medicine, Computer Science, and Economics.
It is the standard pathway for students seeking a strong, calculus-based mathematical background.
The Preliminary Advanced course is where the core skills for the HSC are forged.
A strong grasp of differentiation and functions in Year 11 makes the HSC year significantly more manageable.
This course develops the mathematical maturity and fluency needed to achieve a Band 6 result.
HSC Mathematics Advanced is a high-scaling subject. The course is challenging and attracts a strong cohort of students, leading to a favourable adjustment by UAC.
A raw exam mark in the mid-80s has frequently scaled into the low 90s.
A strong performance in this subject will almost always have a positive impact on your final ATAR, reflecting the high level of mathematical ability required.

Intuition's 3-Step Cycle
Our proven 3-step cycle not only helps student's build confidence but provides them an effective framework that ensures students don’t just learn - they master.
Every week, students attend class led by expert teachers who break down the NESA syllabus with clarity and
structure. They teach not just lecture.
Practice
After the weekly class, students complete structured homework that builds from fundamentals to high-level
exam-style questions. This ensures that what’s learned in class is actively applied and retained.
Consolidate
True progress happens when students revisit, reflect on, and correct their mistakes. Our consolidation step
ensures they don’t just move on — they master what they’ve learned.
Structured week-by-week topic schedules aligned to the NSW NESA syllabus. We teach each concept 3–4 weeks ahead of school, giving you the time to master theory, complete weekly practice, and prepare for school exams.
Build the foundations first.

More Information & FAQs
Our courses require a meaningful commitment, so enrolment includes a personalised face-to-face or online meeting.
The meeting ensures that the student and parent or carer understand the course, its costs, the commitment required and how to make the most of the experience. It is also an opportunity to answer questions and address any concerns. Contact us to get started.
Several tutoring colleges offer a similar service but there are none that do it quite like Intuition. We don't skip steps or take shortcuts; we do what is in the best interest of our students and we always recognise that each student is an individual with individual needs. While we provide a structured, three-step learning cycle for our core course content, we also flexibly offer multiple course options so that students can find the right individual fit.
We also don’t just see ourselves as tutors; we see ourselves as developing the young leaders of tomorrow and our vibrant and energetic staff drive us daily on this path. Many of our staff members have completed an Intuition course themselves and are shining examples of our proven systems.
Fees and inclusions depend on the course and option you choose. Each course page lists the current term and yearly prices alongside the features included in Weekly and Platinum options. Optional preparation terms, holiday courses and add-ons are priced separately where applicable.
Our discounts stack off the published term price: 10% for enrolling before the early-enrolment deadline, a further 10% for paying the year upfront, and another 5% for every subject after the first — with no cap. So two subjects enrolled early and paid yearly is 25% off, three is 30%, four is 35%, and so on.
In the NSW syllabus, Mathematics Extension courses build on Mathematics Advanced. At Intuition, an Extension enrolment covers the Advanced content and the relevant Extension content together, so you do not need a separate Intuition Mathematics Advanced enrolment.
For example, a Mathematics Extension 1 class teaches both the Advanced and Extension 1 content needed for that course. If you are unsure which class matches your school subjects, contact us and we will confirm the correct enrolment.
Schoolwork always takes priority, but students who study at Intuition are better equipped to tackle their schoolwork and prepare for exams. Our programs are structured to ensure syllabus requirements are covered, reinforcing core concepts and improving study efficiency while also providing extension opportunities.
We also flexibly offer multiple course options so that students can find the right individual fit.
Our materials methodically cover the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus, providing both sound theoretical grounding and extensive practical exposure.
Our resource team ensures that all our materials are regularly annotated and updated in line with the latest curriculum changes.
