Understand How the Financial World Works
This course introduces you to the economic way of thinking.
We focus on developing your ability to apply economic theory to real-world events, analyse data, and construct logical arguments.
You will learn about the forces of supply and demand, the nature of markets, and the role of the government, providing a complete toolkit for understanding the news and making informed decisions. 💰
There are no formal prerequisites, but a keen interest in current affairs and strong literacy skills are significant advantages.
Preliminary Economics is the start of a pathway towards careers in Finance, Business, Law, Public Policy, Journalism, and Commerce. It is the essential prerequisite for studying HSC Economics.
The Preliminary course introduces the microeconomic foundations upon which the global and macroeconomic topics of the HSC are built.
A deep understanding of markets, supply, and demand from Year 11 is absolutely essential for analysing the complex economic issues covered in Year 12.
HSC Economics is a strong-scaling subject. It attracts a capable cohort, and as a result, the scaling is generally favourable.
A raw mark in the high 80s, for example, has historically been adjusted upwards by several points.
Performing well in Economics demonstrates high-level analytical and communication skills, which are rewarded in the ATAR calculation.

Our courses require a significant commitment. For this reason, all enrolments attend a personalised face-to-face or online enrolment meeting.
The purpose of this meeting is to ensure that the student and parents understand the course, the commitment required and how to make the most of the experience. We also use this opportunity to answer any questions and address any concerns.

While we provide a structured, three-step learning cycle for our core course content, we also flexibly offer multiple course options so that students can find the right individual fit.
